Biography

Steven Allbutt works in a wide variety of media to produce sculptural installations, he was born in Newcastle Under Lyme in 1976. After completing a Politics Degree at the University of Lincoln in 1997 he spent 4 years working in London for Pilkington Glass as a National Account Manager followed by 2 years for Nomura Bank as a Regional Business Manager. After 1 year travelling he returned to higher education in 2004 to study Fine Art at Leeds University.

Awarded the Alan Mahmoud prize by Leeds University, June 2007.

Recipient of the Esmie Fairburn Bursary, September 2007.

Recipient of Arts Council funding, November 2007.

An emerging artist working in 3D. Often creating sculptural, site specific installations. The work is labour intensive and process lead. Using personal journeys and experiences as a starting point and then expanding upon this to deal with, and place the work within, a wider social/political & historical context.
